Tiwary on the move

Manoj Tiwary, who we discussed here, is making some big strides already. He has been called up for 12th man duties for the Sri Lanka series starting tomorrow, in addition to being voted Batsman of the Year in Indian domestic cricket.

Tapas wonders how a man with that name can even play cricket. Well, he will have to keep wondering. If you are wary of the hype and statistics (and rightly so), go here and see him face up to Zaheer. He struggles from time to time, but survives and plays with authority, even arrogance.

Update 1: Tiwary gets a taste of the BCCI

Update 2: I want to clarify that I find Tapas' wonder hilariously original and well in keeping with his legacy :). I think my lazy writing did not manage to convey that and have attempted to address it by replacing the original "If you are not satisfied..." by "If you are wary of..". Yes, still falls flat, but I'm trying!

I think the primary reason for picking him is the fact that he is in Kolkata and it was just eay to get him in there. I still doubt talent and def need to see mroe stats than just one year. This could lead to another discussion -
does ranji success imply international success?

Hmm...the Kolkata angle is insightful, Taps. I missed it completely.

Sure, at this time he's only an exciting prospect. We've seen many players rise and fall spectacularly and Ranji success is definitely no clear indicator of international success. I got interested because few players make such big runs in their first season. More so after seeing him take the attack to Zaheer, who's really bowling world class these days.

haha..arey digamabar bhaiyya hum bhi tumhaare barein mein kuch likhne hi wale the ki side se ek ek aadmi mast nikalte ho..i def prefer joginder over the other names we have been discussing so far.

another question arises - is it better to wait and find out who the consistent performers are or to draft new talent as it arrives. in austalia all the guys that come in are in their mid 20s..are we just hoping to find the next tendulkar(who I think is a clear example of what they refer to as an OUTLIER in statistics)?

Yes sir, too much hype not good for the young players anyway. Guys like Yuvraj struggled to deal with it spite of being outrageously talented. And then there are the Sodhis and Ratan Shuklas who fell by the wayside after the initial hype.

But we live in hope :D. And yes, Tendulkar is an outlier for every qualitative and quantitative measure we consider.
