Indian Team for the World Cup

My batting order for the World Cup:

1. Uthappa
2. Ganguly
3. Dravid
4. Tendulkar
5. Yuvraj
6. Sehwag
7. Dhoni
8. Pathan
9. Agarkar
10. Harbhajan/Kumble
11. Zaheer

For the team of 15, also consider:
13. Karthik (wicket keeping cover is a must)
14. Kaif/Raina/Gambhir
15. Sreesanth/Munaf

I think Karthik is a must. We need wicket keeping cover and he can win matches with the bat as well, capable of both patient accumulation and explosive strokeplay. Since the comeback in SA, his temperament and shot selection have been very impressive.

Kaif has been treated roughly. He never really had a fixed position in the lineup and his inability to adjust and perform consistently looks like costing him a place in this World Cup. At least age is on his side. I'm still sad for Laxman who really deserved to go last time. Yes, I have gulti feelings too, but even after correcting for them! Come on, VVS vs Dinesh Mongia?

Raina looks incapable of playing a long innings. His fielding is sharp, but is it worth a place in the side?

Gambhir looks good when he gets going, but has remained inconsistent.

Sreesanth doesn't seem like he's figured out the one day game. Munaf's fitness is a concern. I guess one of them make it. We don't have many options there. RP Singh is surely out.

Powar seems sure to miss out. I think he is good enough but three spinners is definitely an overkill.

Discuss!

The batting line up could not be better than this. As far as bowling is concerned, I feel Munaf should be preferred over Agarkar (if he is fit and hopefully he will be fit by world cup).

Rathi, Switzerland ki barfili pahadio pe fielding karte hue! I think Agarkar is definitely in and so is Zaheer, Munaf should be chosen over Srisanth, but I do not like any of them the way they are playing. Remember, Munaf did fine last time he was in West Indies.

7. Puniya, Jai hanuman : Dhoni

Wah beta Ohm, creative ho be!

Rathi Sarkaar, Munaf has good control and scores over Agarkar in being consistent, but his fitness is very suspect. Also, Agarkar seems to have finally discovered some consistency. If you look at his overall economy, it is only a shade above 5 RPO. This is very acceptable in the modern game. What is irritating about him is that he bowls 4-5 good balls and then throws in a rubbish delivery every so often. Looks like he does that less frequently these days. My feeling is that long time fans are wary of him because of tight matches in the past where he would come in to bowl at a crucial juncture and just give it away.

abe ye to sorry ho gaya.... sala sundeep ke cc wale sare logon ko to maine apne lineup me laga diya.. Sundeeep pattem ko kuch role hi nahi mila... chalo sundeeep ko umpire bana dete hain... Aab se cricket match ka sara discussion apne logon ke naam se discuss kiya jaye... Jaise "aaj puniya me dhuandhar batting kari... lekin sundeeep ne unhe galat decision dete hue LBW karar kiya..." Tapas, the begal tiger punah apne form me.. " Sameera ne great comeback with 96 not out"....;)Lets enjoy the timepass !

abe sehwag ko itna neechey.. i disagree. ganguly should be down. sehwag and uthappa should be opening.. lion is a lion

Abe sehwag sala yuvraj aur dhoni ke saath khel ke charged up rahega... dada usko runout karke nabad de denge...

Pravesh, if Sehwag goes berserk in the upcoming SL series,, it will be a no-brainer to push him up the order. We can then play Karthik at six.

In any case, I am in favor trying Sehwag as opener against the minnows in the initial league matches. These games can also be used to rest one or two of the golden oldies Sachin/Dravid/Ganguly/Kumble.

hahaha, Dada kya character hai be...Trivedi's insightful comment is that woh abhi aisa koi kaam nahi karega jisse teamsheet me uske place ko khatra ho, like bowling or fielding at first slip

sala ek hi aadmi hai jo jeeta sakta hai world cup aur woh hai dada..aaj kal aagey ka chakka marna shuru kar diye hai..lace bhi bandha lete hai dusre team walon se.

pathan aa gaya to jeetne ka chance hai worldcup..

sundeep gaurtalab hai ki tume apne favorite laxman ka naam nahin dala?

baki humko lately woh kafi funny laga ki manoj tiwary (pehle to sala aisa naam wala aadmi cricket kaise khel sakta hai) ko chota dada bola jata hai..

aur usse bhi sala comedy hai rediff pe ek picture jo log lete hain stars ke saath..usmein ek mota ladka tendulkar ke ghar jaake bol diya ki mein tere jaisa dikhta hun..

Tapas said...

by the way lagta hai karthik sundeep ke naye SOUTHERN favorite hai..har jagah karthik karthik sala..

humare hisaab se hajaraon dravid team mein nahin chahiye..ek hi kafi hai!

Sundeep Pattem said...

hahaha. Taposh babu, mein hamesha talent dekh ke bolta hun :D. Laxman ke liye gulti soft corner bhi hai, lekin talent hai ki nahin?

Ab sala Dada ke comeback se tumhare mouth me Bengali sweets phoot rahe hai to iska galat meaning thodi nikalenge? ;)

It looks like a good start for the blog, lots of interest... but I see Puniya missing, I have no doubts that he is reading this, maybe the second time. It looks like a multinational blog, with contributors from Americas, Asia and Europe :)

As always, Ohm comes up with a creative lineup. Rathi seems to be out of touch with the latest happenings, internet thoda slow chalta hai Switzerland mein. As expected, Tapas is the big time supporter for Dada "Apne Dada ki baat manoge na". Pravesh ko jagah do na yaar team mein, may be Srisanth.

No doubt about the Laxman talent, they should fly him in for the Australia match atleast (if at all). Team looks all right, batsman ki koi kami nahin hai India mein, bowlers ki kami hai aur all rounders to hai hu nahin.

Pravesh Biyani said...

exactly!! I need a place in the team.. and I am Srisaanth! I can do what he did to Andre Nel.. sala. majaa aa gaya thaa dekh kar.. ! haha..

btw I have figured out my team..

Uththappa (OR Sehwag)
Tendulkar
Sehwag (OR Karthik)
Dravid
Dhoni
Ganguly
Agarkar
Harbhajan ( OR Kumble)
Zaheer
Munaf (or Sreesanth)

I think Srisanth is a kill on his day.

And nobody should be rested except Tendulkar.
